Peggy Day Adventures

July 7 - 19, 2017

Spend a full day in Ulaan Baatar sightseeing, discovering treasures in the overflowing little museums and exploring tempting antique shops before heading to the legendary Gobi Desert. We will look for wildlife in a magical landscape of deep gorges, rocky cliffs, ethereal rock formations and massive sand dunes and visit remote Buddhist shrines.

We also spend time with the people of the Gobi and enjoy the national Festival of Naadam with the horse racing, archery and wrestling competitions, in the more intimate setting of the countryside. We fly north to Muron and meet our wranglers who will take us into another world on horseback.

We ride through pristine forests, up mountains with panoramic views and camp in meadows of wildflowers for three nights to arrive at crystal-clear alpine Lake Khovsgol. We hope to meet Tsaatan people, a unique nomadic group that live in a teepees and raise reindeer for their survival. They often bring their reindeer to the lake for summer grazing. Shamans are also renown in these parts and if appropriate, we will meet.

We finish our trek at a ger camp with sauna, hot showers and home cooking before returning to Ulaan Baatar and onward. Possible Tibet extension if flying through Beijing!

Activities: Walking, horseback riding, hotels, private ger camping and 3 nights horse camping.
